I used to be a real jerk.

I'd spend my days telling everyone just how GREAT I am, how I had all the answers for them and of course, how I had this miraculous ability to make people NOTORIOUSLY RICH and FAMOUS, if you merely subscribed to all my blogs, emails and biz opps!

Then one day I woke up.

My girlfriend had left me, my bills were all way overdue, I was about to get kicked out of my apartment, my dog kept peeing on my leg and I'd finally lost my voice from blatently shouting about myself everytime something moved.

This just so happened to be right around the time my friends list I'd worked so hard to build shrunk from the massive 1247 people, down to 9 women...who for some strange all wore thongs, had handlebar mustaches, and usernames that started with 'Madam' or 'lady'?!?

I just couldn't understand what was happening! Why did everyone hate me? They we're supposed to LOVE ME AND ALL MY WORK.....I mean shit! I told them all how great I was!!! What else could I do?

I could not give up....

Before I knew it, I'd joined another social network...this one a little different than any I'd ever joined before but there I was, doing all the same things I normally did, until this dude came along and told me my profile SUCKED!

HOW DARE HE?!? Thats when I went TOTALLY NUTS on him.....SLAMMING the Keys on my key board I tore right into him, telling him just How and What he sucked....Carefully informed him what a LOSER he was and how he had to pick at postive people like me to feel better about himself....Heck, I even proceeded to bring his mother into it!

You know what he told me?

He said "Dude, I'm sorry you feel that way. But thats Your problem. I'd be more than willing to provide you with some tips on etiquette and HOW TO BUILD RELATIONSHIPS WITH TRUE FRIENDS WHO WILL DO ALMOST ANYTHING FOR YOU, but you will have to put your ego, know it all attitude and lame-ass opportunities aside and learn to respect people and their wishes. Let me know."

P.S. If you ever, EVER bring my mother into this or any other little 'situation' ever again, I will find you and rip your ******* ***** off! I know people and I will find you. Have a nice day.

It's been a long road since that fateful day, but let me tell you...I'm glad I took his advice, it's nice to have real friends...and even nicer to still have my *****!

Take it from me, don't just come here and slap up a 'link farm' profile! AND NEVER SEND YOUR "FRIENDS" JUNK MASS EMAILS OFFERS WHEN YOU HAVEN"T EVEN TAKEN 30 MEASLY SECONDS TO GET TO KNOW THEM THE LITTLEST BIT!

Instead, get to know people...create impressions that'll last a lifetime. LISTEN to others before you give them advice...find out if they even want any! Give credit where it's due, and own up to your actions.....God, this is all so elementary....Just be a better person, maybe people will want to know who you are and what you're about.....

My feeling is this........no photo=SOMETHING to hide(ie. like SPAM or SCAMS possibly??). It is the equivalent to a business hiding behind a PO Box and NO ph # for contact. DO NOT do business with such companies.

Well, it's a given: Lisa Lomas Rules !! AND I get so much SPAM I just delete it in my email boxes without even clicking on it. I completely agree about the use of photos too. If you don't think enough of yourself and your friends to upload a photo stay away. I don't care if it's the photo of you winning the eighth grade HOBO CONTEST, upload that puppy! It's a photo and it counts as far as I'm concerned.

Grrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!! THTA is what I have to say about SPAM(SCAMS). I am with you Lisa 100% about the profile pic thing. I NEVER ADD a person w/no profile pic. I am a member of 4 ning networks now and on one the owner just issued an announcement on the subject. He will give members 2 warnings, if no profile pic is uploaded or a GOOD reason given to him why NOT the member WILL be banned 30 days after the 2nd warning.

I just hate seeing spam on this site. Thus far subtle hints have not had any effect. Hint have been dropping to this person from myself, Dav, Arthur and even now by our "resident" scammer and still it remain. As a matter of fact I even dropped a not so subtle hint. They have all been ignored thus far. It's a shame that people are so determined to follow the advice of some Guru even when it does not work

We are dealing with people. I even now don't add a person with no photo. I think its such a small effort in Social Networks. You find out more if you ask questions.

I was just in this network today where someone was showing others how to obtain everyones emails off net and would even do it paid, man did that admin get an earful from me.

See Scummy. Isn't it so much better to have people actually like you for who you are. All that spam crap just pisses people off. And if you aren't sure if it's spam here's a few tip offs:
1.Your profile is exactly the same on every network you have joined. Different networks have different purposes that cut and paste profile is spam!

2. Your profile consists of links, your podcasts, your ads and more ads, links and podcasts on RSS feeds. Why do you have a profile that is nothing but ads, tells me nothing about you and annoys the living hell out of me and others who take the time to visit it.

3. Do you have your podcasts set to play automatically on a continuous loop? Why are you forcing people to listen to something they may not want to hear?

4. Do the folks on the network know your name or are you hiding behind some business name on a SOCIAL network. If it's a social network we want to know you, even if you use a handle you should be getting to know people as you, not as some business entity.
